In today's climate, it's natural for members of the public to look to artists as their mouthpiece to articulate their opinions, share their disgruntlement and raise their voices above the din. The artists tend to be the ones with microphones, after all. The kind that are actually plugged in to an amp.
Then there are the artists who provide much needed, straight up escapism. They want you to dance and forget your cares for a brief period of your day.
Such is the case with Fitz & the Tantrums. Rounding out Hilton Honors 2019 concert series (where members could use points to gain exclusive access to private, intimate events such as this), Fitz & the Tantrums broke in the Conrad in Washington, D.C.
Using the opportunity to just let the crowd dance and clap along for an hour, Fitz & the Tantrums provided a much needed to release to an audience (some of whom had traveled in from as far as Texas and California) who only wanted to party and were more than happy to do so, aided by an open bar.
Playing songs from their new album All the Feels, in addition to classics "Out of My League" and "Moneygrabber," lead singer Michael Fitzpatrick smartly name checked previous performances at local venues including Black Cat and 9:30 Club while Noelle Scaggs did some heavy lifting both vocally and with some seriously hardcore tambourine work.
The party atmosphere also inspired a severe amount of back-to-the-band selfies. Forget FOMO. These were SWYM (See What You're Missing) moments. Nothing like rubbing it in to your friends that you're at an exclusive show and they're not.
