The King and Queen of Latin Pop, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, were awarded the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize last night in a star-studded event honoring the groundbreaking couple.

This was an evening of firsts as they became not only the first husband-and-wife pair but the first Hispanic-Americans to be honored with the award.

Hosted by actor Andy Garcia and EGOT-winning legend Rita Moreno, the couple held hands as they were seated in a box next to the stage as multiple entertainers performed in their honor.

The evening kicked off with the cast of Broadway’s “On Your Feet” (a musical about the couple's story which debuted in 2015), followed by performances by Jose Feliciano (who sang Gershwin's "Our Love Is Here to Stay"), Patti LaBelle sang "Coming Out of the Dark" and later dueted with Cyndi Lauper on the Estefan-penned Olympic anthem "Reach."

Quincy Jones, who is godfather to the Estefans' daughter Emily, quipped when he got to the stage "Two years ago I stopped drinking alcohol - and it works!" Gloria later joked about Jones, "I think you're older than the Library of Congress."

The evening became a family affair as daughter Emily turned out one of the best solo performances of the night on "Oye Mi Canto" before she sang with her mother on "Embraceable You."

Not to be outdone, Gloria Estefan took the stage numerous times throughout the evening, with Emilio on congas for "The Rhythm Is Going to Get You" and ending with a samba-version of the classic hit "Conga."

The Gershwin Prize will air on PBS on May 3.
